The team operates the WQZE318 GMRS repeater for REACT business and other general use on Channel 20 (462.675 MHz). Below are additional details about the repeater and guidelines for repeater use:
The repeater is located in SE Huntsville and currently has a range limited mostly to south Madison County west of Green Mountain. Efforts may be made in the future to move it to a location that will expand its coverage.
The repeater is not linked to any other repeaters or networks, and there are no plans to ever do so. Its purpose is to aid in local communication within our community.
The repeater is listed with myGMRS as a REACT-only repeater but is now open for general use, especially for anyone needing assistance or trying to contact our team. There are no provisions for anyone to request access to it via myGMRS but the TX/RX tones for general use are now listed with no need to request pre-approval for access. The repeater will also announce the TX/RX tones as a reminder at the bottom of the hour (unless restricted to REACT use).
When necessary the repeater may be restricted to REACT team use only, typically during REACT activities. When this happens, the published TX/RX tones will not work.
All repeater users must use their GMRS call sign per FCC regulations. Unit IDs assigned to team members should also be used to more easily identify who is operating, especially during REACT activities.
Any mobile or handheld radio that is FCC-approved for GMRS can be used with the repeater. Note that it must support different squelch codes for transmit and receive (not all do). An inexpensive handheld that is computer-programmable and 100% compatible with the repeater can be found here. For best performance, a better antenna is recommended for handhelds than the one included with the radio. Two examples can be found here and here. Note that these antennas may not have the right kind of connector if you are using a different radio brand.
Repeater transmit/receive codes for restricted team use will be published for reference by all team members. These codes should not be shared outside the team.
